Candle-lit Procession and Vigil for Peace in Lewisham December 2004

Fifty people gathered at Lewisham Clock Tower for the
annual Procession and Vigil for Peace. The gathering sang peace songs, and
were then addressed by Councillor Gurbaksh Garcha who called for a minute's
silence to remember the 71 British soldiers, the thousands of American and
Iraqi soldiers, and the tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians who have
died since the invasion of Iraq.

Jim Radford, speaking on behalf of ex-Services CND, said that he was
appalled that the US and British military authorities in Iraq were not
even counting the number of civilian casualties.

Anna Baker, speaking on behalf of the Green Party, reminded that
gathering
that the war was about oil. She said we should not be fighting over
natural
resources, but instead using less of them.
